KATHRYN HORSLEY WEARS MANY HATS WITH HER TWO DEGREES and a full-time mother gig. Sometimes, she is even brave and wears an actual hat but not often. Sarcastic and witty, she isn’t afraid to make others laugh, even at her fake British accent. Her competitive nature drives her to make every book her best, but she still realizes that nobody is perfect…that’s why there is spell check.

Ohio has always been her home, but she knows she does not have to go far to see the world. She just opens a book.

Following the success of her first novel, Windows of the Soulless, Kathryn has expanded the Soulless Series with the release of book two, Without Shadows, and book three, Silhouettes in the Moon. Vampire lovers, beware! The Soulless Series will take you into the world of the undead as you've never seen before.

What inspired you to become an author?

I’ve had a very active imagination since I was a little child. My love of creating stories allowed me to continue pretend-play games until I was a teenager. (Yes, I played with Barbies until I was 13.) As I grew older and eventually stopped playing with toys, I found myself without an outlet to express the stories in my mind. I found one outlet in my nephew. He loved to hear my stories. We would sit for hours, me talking and him listening intently. He was so enthusiastic about me actually writing my stories down that I began to entertain the idea.

I did not believe I had the time or talent to complete a novel, so I began looking into other forms of storytelling. One morning, I sat down at my computer and began writing screenplays. My nephew and niece would read them. I even had a small fan base beginning at their school, as they would share my amateur scripts. One screenplay, in particular, had a character describe a novel they were reading, and I knew I wanted that novel to be real, and physical. I knew I had to be the one to write it. That novel is the first book in The Soulless Series.

The Soulless Series, a first-person perspective, is a set of five novels. The first three are written and available in both print and on Kindle. The fourth is due to be released in 2023.

In the first novel, Windows of the Soulless, the audience is introduced to a ruthless killer and vampire, Nicolas Rider, and drawn into his world of darkness and carnal, self-satisfying behaviors. As much of a killer as any vampire, Nicolas struggles to hold on to the last bit of humanity he retains. Unfortunately, his arrogant yet chivalrous ways do him more harm than good. However, by the end, the goodness within him wins him some unlikely allies.

Nicolas soon discovers that deceit is just the tip of the iceberg. As this edgy Series continues, he will learn that deceptions from his past and future run much more profound. New enemies emerge. Family becomes foes. Foes become lovers. With carnal desires and bloody action, this Series is not for the faint of heart.

In Without Shadows, relationships between the local werewolves and the vampires become strained. The vampire in him paints the snow in crimson to protect the ones he loves. Nicolas must decide who his true family is.

In Silhouettes in the Moon, the third book in the Series, Nicolas finds himself conflicted about doing the right thing and chasing his desires. When his world begins to fall around him, he must choose what he is willing to sacrifice. After all, forbidden love cannot remain hidden for long.

What are you working on now?

Currently, I am working on the finishing touches for the fourth installment of The Soulless Series, Daylight Awakens, where a hastened endeavor sends Nicolas on the path to face his maker once and for all. Blood pours freely and tensions soar as he must go against his nature to work side by side with the werewolf who killed his mother. Together, they will fight for a journal possessing answers needed to solve the puzzle of Nicolas’ sorted past and possibly uncover that he is capable of more than he has ever believed.
